SASOLBURG HEILBRON PETRUS STEYN LINDLEY ARLINGTON SENEKAL ROSENDAL

Senekal residents campaigned for the foundation of a town since Winburg was too far away from them to travel to and on 5 June 1877 town establishment was finally acknowledged. It is named after Commandant Frederik Petrus Senekal who died in 1865 in the skirmishes with the Basotho people. Senekal was founded on the farm De Put of F Malan. The town is situated only 25km from the renowned Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve and is also situated comfortably on the major N5 road traversing the Eastern Free State. With its enviable Free State climate, atmospheric scenery and majestic star studded nights it offers pleasant living conditions.
